Glow Station and Color Surge Win Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Awards

EASTON, PA – October 7, 2008 – Crayola has received two Platinum Awards from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio given for the best toys of the year. The coveted Platinum Award was given to the Crayola Glow Station, a unique creative activity that lets children enjoy the thrill of creating with the magic of light on a glowing canvas, and Crayola Color Surge, a special marker and paper set that together create super bright colors on dark paper.

“Winning two Platinum Awards from the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio strengthens the trust Crayola has with parents, who believe that giving the gift of creativity will not only excite their children with innovative new ways to create with light and bright colors, but also nurture important developmental skills,” says Mark Schwab, President and CEO, Crayola LLC.

What elevated the Crayola Glow Station and Color Surge to Platinum Award status is the combination of fun, innovation and skill-building each creative activity gives a child.

“The Glow Station is light-years away from many creativity toys,” says Stephanie Oppenheim, child development expert and co-founder of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. “It’s a great toy for the car at night, or right before bed, and it’s an entertaining way to encourage kids to use the small muscles needed for writing.”

The Crayola Glow Station, for children 6 and up, illuminates children’s imaginations through the magic of drawing with light in the dark on a large-size glowing canvas. Using a light wand, children can either draw freehand or use stencils and texture sheets to create more realistic drawings. A diamond-shaped tip can be snapped on the end of the light wand for stamping unique starburst designs on the

canvas. Drawings magically disappear over time, or can be “erased” by turning on the lights, so kids can create again and again for unlimited fun.

Equally as bright and fun, Color Surge, for children 5 and up, intensifies children’s creativity in another unique way, according to Oppenheim. “Color Surge gives children a magical drawing experience when the markers touch down on the brilliantly colored double-sided paper to create intensely bright colors,” she said.

The suggested retail price for the Crayola Glow Station is $29.99 and $7.99 for Color Surge. Both can be found at all major retailers.
